Based in the Bundaberg area, Jnr Robotics Academy are committed to engaging regional kids in the world of robotics through Lego robot kits. It is our aim to expose as many children to the important STEM concepts such as designing, engineering and coding. To maximise participation and experience we provide holiday workshops, incursions and a ‘Competition Season’ for children aged 9 - 14 years old.
Sessions are capped at 15 robotics kits to keep numbers low and interaction with mentors high. Participants can either reserve a kit individually or team up with a friend and share a kit.
Workshops/courses will be held out of Elliott Heads State School. To help keep costs as low as possible, each participant/team must bring their own device with the Lego Education Spike app already installed. The app is free and allows participants to code and connect with the robot devices. It can be downloaded from the associated electronic store for iPads, tablets, laptops and Chromebooks.

School Holiday Workshops
School holiday Workshops are designed to engage and inspire student minds and even give an insight towards some of the competition events. Typically running for 2.5 hours, workshops have different challenges that participants must design, build and code for.
Workshops include:
Sumo
Bridge Bullies
Robo Rescue
Soccer
Robo Racers
Just Dance (coming soon)
Build Challenges (coming soon)
Robotics Courses
Both ‘Introduction’ and ‘Intermediate’ courses run for a full day (5.5 hours) during the holidays. Participants will learn a variety of different coding techniques and build concepts including the use of sensors. They build on this knowledge throughout the day while completing mini challenges.
Whether your child wants a detailed introduction to the world of Lego robotics or to upskill before signing up to the ‘Competition Season’, these courses are for them.
JRA Competition Season
The JRA Competition Season focuses on designing and programming Lego robots to complete task-based challenges over a 16 week program. Participants will prepare and refine their robots in weekly afternoon sessions in the lead up to both Regional competitions and the QLD RoboCup State Championships.
Participants can select from one of the following RoboCup categories:
Rescue (Line) - Navigate a maze to rescue survivors in a chemical spill.
On-Stage - Create a 1-2 minute autonomous, robotic performance.
Soccer - Take to the field in a 2 vs 2 robot soccer match.
The robotics competition season typically begins early in Term 2 and runs for 16 school weeks through to late Term 3.
Incursions
Jnr Robotics Academy can fully customise and tailor incursion programs for schools and other community groups/services e.g. celebration activities, after school programs, holiday care, curriculum support etc. in the local Bundaberg and surrounding areas. These programs would have to run during Terms 1 & 4 due to the JRA Competition Season.
Prices depend on number of participants, required number of robot kits, duration of lessons/program, travel etc.
